Motueka - SOLD
5 substantial blocks comprising a net stocked area of 3,409 hectares, situated around Motueka to the west of Nelson at the top of the South Island.
The land is owned by the Crown and leased to the owner of the trees under a Crown Forest License (CFL). The licensee’s or lessee’s interest under that CFL including the entire tree crop is offered for sale.
Planting is 96% radiata pine and is of mixed age. The majority was planted from 1993 to 2001 but there is some earlier planting ready for harvesting representing some 10% of the crop and significant recent planting since 2004. The CFL is effectively a perpetual lease as it is annually extended by one year. This changes if a notice is received from the crown advising that the land is to be returned to Maori as a Treaty of Waitangi settlement. This process is currently underway. The CFL will then change to a terminating lease with the land reverting to the landowners following harvesting of each compartment, with no replanting obligations. The current annual rental payable to the Crown under the CFL is $162,500.
