An Auckland company has bought 22ha of prime industrial land in Oamaru for an undisclosed sum.
Oamaru Land Holdings Ltd is owned by Michael and Andrew Carpenter, whose family business is leading road transport hire and lease company TR Group.
Michael Carpenter said the land, which is in four titles, would be subdivided for industrial use.
“We plan to retain a portion of it as an investment but it has always been our intention to sell off part of it. Big blocks of industrial zoned land are becoming harder to find – we see this parcel as meeting all our investment criteria.”
The site is north of Oamaru opposite the racecourse. It has a 755m frontage to State Highway 1 and the main south railway line to the rear of the property.
Marketing agent Noel Gilchrist, of Colliers International in Christchurch, said Oamaru was a popular target for investors who recognised the value of the greenfields sites, which were well-located with excellent highway and railway access.
Colliers is currently selling a second, smaller block of mixed zone land which is being offered as one lot or split into two. One parcel covers 5ha and is zoned Business 4 while the other covers 5.5ha and is zoned Rural.
