BUILDINGS and the business of a function centre at Pauatahanui, north of Wellington, are for sale.
The Lodge at the Inlet is popular for weddings, conferences and accommodation, with its size providing room to run three different functions at the same time.
Colliers International broker Chris Gollins, who with colleague Nick Leggett is marketing the property, said it provided plenty of options for a prospective buyer.
‘‘The real opportunity exists for a new owner to specialise in one aspect of the business and then possibly lease out the others. With weddings booked until 2010, there will be real confidence in the property.’’
Tenders for the site, which is valued at around $3 million, close at 4pm on Tuesday, November 18.
The 1670 square metres of buildings sits on nearly five hectares overlooking the Pauatahanui Inlet and surrounding rural land.
Built in the late 1960s, the two main buildings have been altered to provide two large function rooms, while fine-dining restaurant The Vue opened at the start of this year.
The property features six guest accommodation units, along with two apartments suitable for staff living. A swimming pool and tennis court are also part of the complex, along with two commercial kitchens and three bars.
Mr Leggett said the current owner has investigated adding further accommodation in the large parking area. While no application for consent has been lodged, such development would add to the business by allowing many more guests to stay overnight.
‘‘The property has a colourful history, after being a spa in the 1970s it was converted into a dineand-dance venue ... It’s been through many machinations, but over the past decade or so has been a popular wedding venue for scores of couples.’’
