High profile Hornby site for sale


The current extension of the Southern Motorway is set to benefit a large property in the industrial hub of Hornby, which has just been put up for sale by owners Landpower NZ Ltd.

Situated on the high profile corner of Main South Rd, Halswell Junction Rd and Hickory Pl, the site covers 8591m2, including buildings of 2929m2 at 6-14 Hickory Pl. Eighteen months ago Landpower bought the adjacent 2515m2 rear site at 16 Hickory Pl with a partially renovated building of 1070m2.

Jonathan Lyttle and Gary Seear, industrial specialists at Colliers International in Christchurch, said Landpower had occupied the distinctive site for the past 15 years but was now relocating as it no longer needed the showroom space after appointing a specialist retail dealership.

The property, once part of the sprawling Applefields orchards, was one of the first sold in the then Produce Park complex. The industrial park covered 42ha and was established under the previous Paparoa plan with performance standards requiring development to be low density with a significant emphasis on open space and landscape treatments.

The Business 4P zoning allows for suburban industrial and produce.

“There is already a higher standard of amenity than on other business zones and there is an expectation that this locality will continue to be developed in this way,” Lyttle and Seear said.

“We’re already fielding strong interest from owner occupiers and investors. This is an amazing opportunity - one of the most high profile industrial sites in Christchurch, a regular shape, multiple titles.”

Richard Wilson, CEO of Landpower, said the site had been ‘brilliant.’

“Everyone knows who we are – the place with the tractors on the corner. As a retail and showroom site it’s served our purposes very well and been particularly convenient for our customers.”
