A major retail development in Moorhouse Ave is poised to start, with all but one of the tenancies confirmed.
The development, spanning Durham to Montreal Sts, is on the former Hunters Furniture and Powerstore site and will see the return of both retailers along with Back to Bed and Total Food Equipment, who were also previously located on the high profile site.
Nick Doig, retail leasing specialist with Colliers International in Christchurch, said there had been strong interest in the project from retailers keen to re-establish permanent premises.
“Some have been operating from makeshift premises over the past year or so and are now keen to commit to longer term solutions. There’s an acute shortage of quality retail stock and any such space that comes to the market is being snapped up. It’s great to see tenants taking such positive steps.”
Well known retailer Asko Design Furniture is taking 830m2, an established sporting goods operator has 475m2, and new business Pet Central is leasing 457m2. Furniture Concepts, previously housed in the historic Armson building, also joins the high calibre list of retailers.
Doig said the remaining tenancy, of 805m2, was attracting significant interest.
The new single level project, a joint venture between 218 Moorhouse Ltd and Power Centre Moorhouse Ltd, boasts a large lettable area of 10,248m2, and includes 203 customer car parks and 65 staff parks.
Completion is scheduled for Show Weekend although Powerstore and Back to Bed are expected to be trading in August.
