Five units in the premium Bluewater Resort at Lake Tekapo are expected to attract strong interest among buyers at auction on July 12.

The complex, which opened in 2008, boasts 109 luxury units and is managed by prominent hotel operator Stella Hospitality Group under its premium Peppers brand. The vendor is seeking to sell the balance of 32 units with a first group of five going to auction.

The unit title apartments being marketed range in size from a studio unit of 43m2 to three bedroom units of 163m2.

Philip Cooper, an investment specialist with Colliers International, said the fully furnished units were an excellent investment achieving good returns as well as offering the buyer four weeks accommodation every year.

“Tekapo is always a popular destination and recent profile around the Aoraki MacKenzie Dark Sky Reserve is adding to interest in the area.”

“The Reserve has recently been designated the southern hemisphere’s first dark sky reserve and the world’s biggest. It’s a year round mecca for tourists, what with the Round Hill skifield in the winter, the hot pools and ice skating complex, boating and mountain biking. It’s short, three hour drive from Christchurch is also highly attractive for Canterbury people.

“Bluewater ticks a lot of boxes because of its combination of good returns, the ability for it to be used as holiday accommodation, and such a proven operator,” Cooper said.

He said owners could have the units managed by the resort operator.
