Braemar Lodge & Spa is the jewel in Hanmer Springs' crown
Hanmer Springs has long been a mecca for domestic and international tourists, wowed by its renowned thermal springs, together with its tranquility, breathtaking scenery, and myriad of outdoor pursuits.
Braemar Lodge & Spa is the jewel in the crown, a luxury lodge majestically set on 1.13ha, strategically positioned to take full advantage of the alpine vistas towards the Southern Alps. In one direction Christchurch is just 125km away, in the other Hanmer village 10km up the road.
The spectacular property is being offered for sale as its holding company, Braemar Lodge (2004) Ltd, is in receivership.
The hotel operation includes 24 double size luxury units, each on separate titles, with 15 of the units featuring a private hot tub on the terrace. Core facilities include a holistic healing centre featuring three treatment rooms. The Altitude Restaurant and bar caters for up to 50 people and private dining is available for 30 guests with adjoining conference and meeting room facilities. The lodge is ideally positioned to cater for weddings and special occasions.
Ancillary services include a seven room building with common kitchen and living areas for staff and parking for up to 30 guest’s cars.
Braemar Lodge & Spa underwent major redevelopment, expansion and investment in 2006 and was completed in 2008. It is currently managed by premium hotel operator Select Hotels. Buyers are able to continue operating the business under the existing management agreement or can choose a different direction for the business and property.
Investment broker Philip Cooper, of Colliers International, said the sale of Braemar Lodge & Spa was an excellent opportunity for buyers who wished to continue to develop the business or consider other uses.
“This is the only property of this standard in the Hanmer region and its luxurious fit out sets it apart. It is showing increasing profitability on an annual basis. The 24 luxury units on individual titles enable other ownership options to be considered.”
The scarcity of conference facilities in Christchurch has fuelled growing enquiry for Braemar Lodge & Spa, which Cooper said was perfectly placed to cater for such groups because of its proximity to Christchurch, recreational pursuits in the Hanmer region, and on site restaurant and function facilities.
“The lodge has all services, including the conference rooms, which have AV equipment for presentations and has excellent uptake from the Christchurch wedding market,” Cooper said.
The property is for sale by Receivers’ Tender, closing November 1.
