This month we release new industrial vacancy survey results for Christchurch and Auckland. In Auckland a noticeable feature of these results is that the market recovery, first indicated by reducing vacancy in the traditional prime industrial locations a year to 18 months ago is now spreading to other high quality, although less centrally located precincts.
A year ago the overall vacancy rate was 5.1% and it is exactly the same today. In February it was higher at 6.0%. Compared to a year ago reductions in vacancy in nine precincts are offset by increases in two – New Lynn (up by 3.9% to 12.1%) and East Tamaki (up by 0.8% to 4.4%). The most striking reductions are in Mairangi Bay (down 4.0% to 3.4%), Wairau Valley (down 3.1% to 2.4%) and Henderson (down 3.0% to 7.0%).
