Update from Peter Herbert | Chief Financial Officer
Hi Buddies
We thought that we should provide you with an update on the Colliers International Christchurch Earthquake Relief Fund. The fund has now received total donations of about $140,000 of which around $44,000 has been distributed to date. The majority of these donations have come from Colliers people personally who are keen to help their Christchurch colleagues get back on their feet again. The donations have come from a diverse range of sources including substantial individual personal donations from around NZ and internationally and contributions from each of the Colliers offices in NZ. It is with gratitude that we acknowledge the many personal donations made by Colliers people to assist their colleagues in Christchurch.
A general payment from the fund has been made to all Colliers staff in Christchurch to assist them with the immediate aftermath of the earthquake. The payment was intended to help cover some of the immediate costs of replacing essentials after the earthquake, things like possessions stuck in the offices, spoiled food, personal items etc. that would not have been covered by insurance or subject to insurance excesses. We are now looking at some specific instances of hardship where further help is required. We are also looking to assist people with transport costs to enable them to take-up offers to use donated time at holiday homes. We believe that it is important that Christchurch people have the opportunity to gain some respite from the reality of living daily with the consequences of the earthquake and ongoing aftershocks.
Please feel free to suggest other ways that the fund may be used to be of further assistance to the Christchurch team.
As time moves on please accept that we understand that the recovery for Christchurch will take a sustained effort and that our thoughts continue to be with you.
Regards, the team at Colliers International, both nationally and globally.

10.30am 3/03/11: Feedback emails received from Paul Calder & Richard Smith | Duncan Cotterill
Thanks for that Hamish......will be seeing a bit more of you as we are at 1 Sir William Pickering Drive. Can I just say, Brent Bailey was just brilliant for us last week in the heat of it all. He worked his butt off trying to pull together a number of options for us and although not successful his efforts, and those of Colliers, have not gone unnoticed by the Duncan Cotterill partnership.
Like you, we are very fortunate to be part of a large organisation. All of our other offices are steaming on, most of us here are set up remotely in Christchurch either at home or in small teams and we plan to be up and running in the new premises in the next few days. If Colliers or any of your clients are needing assistance in any way, let me know....we can get someone onto it.
Richard Smith | Partner | Duncan Cotterill
Hi Hamish
I’d just like to reiterate what Richard has said below – Brent was excellent, and it was great to have him on our side. Brent gave us the initial heads up that things were moving very quickly and really went above and beyond to try and find a home for us. Noel was also great to deal with in relation to Moorhouse Ave, and it’s a shame that we couldn’t nail one of the premises Brent and Noel showed us, but I am very relieved that we have found somewhere to go.
In case it is of interest to you or your team I have attached a summary of the position under the standard ADLS lease form in relation to partial and total destruction. The summary is general by nature and each case will to some extent turn on its own facts.
I had a call from the Marta Steeman from the Press earlier this afternoon asking about issues that CBD businesses were facing. I told her finding alternative premises was a key issue (in addition to the issues surrounding existing premises). I hope you don’t mind but I said that if she wants to know what’s going on with the market then she needs to speak to you to get the good oil.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of any assistance.
