Colliers expands strategic asset capabilities with key new hire

New Zealand’s largest property management consultancy is growing its strategic asset and business development capabilities with the appointment of a new commercial director.

John Mills joins Colliers International Real Estate Management’s senior leadership team with a strong background in financial services and property.


Mills will be leading the Auckland Commercial Real Estate Management team with a specific focus on new business development, and growing the team’s strategic asset management arm.

He comes to Colliers International from BNZ, where he was a partner in the Property Finance team. The role involved the management and oversight of a senior portfolio of commercial investment and development assets.

“At BNZ, I gained valuable insights into both the property and financial services industries,” Mills says.

“I’m excited to bring those skills to Colliers to help our clients achieve better results, faster.”

Mills has 11 years of experience in the financial services industry.

He joined ASB as part of their graduate programme before moving to BNZ as a senior associate.

After a stint as a senior analyst at the Bank of Scotland International, Mills returned to BNZ as a partner in the Property Finance team.

Colliers International Real Estate Management is New Zealand’s largest independent property management and consultancy company.

It manages a diverse range of property portfolios, from large multi-tenanted retail and commercial holdings through to smaller individual properties.

The commercial property management team was established to help clients grow the value of their portfolios through forward-thinking property management and strategic asset planning.

“Using our industry experience we work with our clients to develop a tailored strategic plan for each individual asset.

“That helps us to build efficiencies into the day to day management of properties, and identify when capital expenditure may be required – information our clients find invaluable.”

The team also offers portfolio development services that assist clients through the entire life cycle of an asset, from acquisition and due diligence through to disposal.
