Tim Male joins Colliers International as Retail Director to drive new tenant representation initiative
A dedicated tenant representation service for retailers, providing expert advice on issues such as premises selection and lease negotiations, has been launched by Colliers International.
The new service will expand and complement Colliers’ existing range of retail property capabilities, which includes sales, leasing, development advisory, project management, and property and portfolio management.
Experienced retail property professional Tim Male has been appointed as Retail Director to drive the new initiative.
He has already secured City Fitness, which operates 23 gyms across New Zealand, as Colliers’ first significant retail tenant representation client.
Male joins Colliers from CBRE, where he was National Director Retail from 2016, following an 18-month stint in Sydney working for Westfield.
Prior to this, he was a retail property consultant with CBRE for more than a decade in London, where he acted for top international tenants and major institutional landlords.
Charles Cooper, Auckland Managing Director at Colliers International, says he is excited to have Male on board.
“Tim will provide a new level of service for our clients by working closely with our Retail Leasing and Real Estate Management teams.
“This will enable him to leverage his skills and extensive contacts in both the high street retail and shopping centre markets.”
Male says he’s looking forward to the new role.
“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with market-leading retail professionals and to grow Colliers’ already extensive capabilities.”
Retail National Director Leroy Wolland says Male brings significant tenant representation experience to the role.
“Tim has acted for well-known brands both in New Zealand and overseas, including Marks & Spencer, Sainsburys, Topshop and Estee Lauder.
“His unique skillset and unrivalled reputation will add further strength to Colliers’ national retail business in New Zealand.”
Richard James, National Director of Real Estate Management at Colliers, says Male’s experience with major institutional landlords will also be greatly beneficial.
“Tim has acted for substantial shopping centre owners such as Tinline Property and Westfield in New Zealand and Australia, and Land Securities, Aviva and Legal & General in the UK.
“His ability to understand the needs of both tenants and owners will be a huge asset when it comes to securing the best retail mix.”
Male studied at Lincoln University and is about to attain his RICS accreditation. He starts with Colliers this month.
