New Zealand corporate real estate news  

  • Russell McVeagh announces Covid-19 vaccination policy: Russell McVeagh has announced a new Covid-19 vaccination office policy. The policy is that clients, visitors, or staff entering its offices must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19. The policy applies from 1 November 2021.
  • PwC announces Covid-19 vaccination policy: PwC has announced a Covid-19 vaccination office policy. The policy is that staff and contractors who wanted to work within a PwC office or client site must be fully vaccinated from December 2021. The policy also applies to visitors. PwC are offering flexible remote working for those who do not comply with the policy. 
  • Stylerunner plans New Zealand debut in Newmarket: Stylerunner is opening its first store in New Zealand in Westfield Newmarket next month. The 300 sqm store will house more than 60 brands and will be the largest flagship store within Australasia. Stylerunner plans to open more stores within New Zealand over the next 12 months. 
  • Timaru District Council may act over earthquake prone buildings: Approximately 80% of building owners in Timaru haven’t provided earthquake assessment information. This means Timaru District Council may be forced to act (e.g. charge the owner). 53 building owners have accepted a 12-month extension to undertake an engineering assessment.  

Global corporate real estate news  

  • Thryv Australia leaves office and adapts to remote work permanently: Thryv Australia has announced it is leaving the office and allowing its 500 staff to work remotely permanently. Thryv plans to sublease its current 3,900 sqm of office space in Melbourne with three years remaining on the lease.  
  • Uber opens new office at the Old Post Office Chicago: Uber has opened its new office at the Old Post Office in Chicago. The 42,828 sqm office space will accommodate more than 2,000 employees and serve as its global headquarters for Uber Freight. Uber plans to only use 28,799 sqm at first with the remainder of the space subleased to provide future growth space. 
  • Google’s sister life science company to open new office: Google’s life science company Verily is planning to open a new office in Dallas to occupy until its permanent office in a new operations hub development is completed. Verily plans to occupy one floor and expand to several floors as the company grows. Each floor can accommodate 115 employees. 
  • Amazon announces new work policy: Amazon has announced that all of its corporate staff can work from home permanently, in the office or a combination of the two depending on what individual teams decide is the best work environment.  
  • Target plans to open more mini Apple shops: Target is planning to double the number of mini Apple shops within Target stores before Christmas. 36 Target stores will have mini Apple shops and displays with employees trained by Apple. 
  • Tesla signs office lease in Palo Alto: Tesla will maintain a presence in Palo Alto once its headquarters moves to Austin. Tesla has agreed to a 10 year lease of 30,193 sqm near its current headquarters.  
  • Amazon opens first 4-star shop outside of the US: Amazon has opened its first 4-star shop in the UK. This will be its first shop outside of the USA. The 325 sqm store offers around 2,000 products that have been rated more than 4 stars by customers including books, electronics, toys, games and homewares.
