Colliers International expands Dunedin services

Merger with Chapmans brings Otago-wide valuation capability

Leading property company Colliers International has greatly expanded its service offering in for commercial real estate in Dunedin following a merger with local family-owned valuation business Chapman Consultancy.

The merger in January comes only two months after Colliers International Otago completed its merger with Queenstown residential agency Hoamz.

Colliers International Otago now comprises two newly formed companies, Otago Valuations Limited and Otago Realty (NZ) Limited, both of which operate together as franchises of Colliers International New Zealand Limited.

With offices in Queenstown, Wanaka and Dunedin, Colliers is now the only full-service valuation and real estate organisation in the Otago region.

As part of the merger, Chapmans’ staff will relocate from their temporary premises in Youngs House in The Octagon, to a new office next to Colliers International in ASB House.

Colliers International Otago Managing Director Alastair Wood says the mergers build on all of the brand’s existing strengths.

“Combining our resources not only provides better opportunities for staff and business growth; it also gives our clients access to the region’s only full service real estate offering, with the backing of Colliers International’s global brand, knowledge and expertise.”

Chapman Consultancy founder Tony Chapman, who remains active in the new company, says he is excited by the many benefits.

His son Joe Chapman, who is a shareholder and Director of the new Otago Valuations business, says the opportunity to offer services under Colliers International’s brand is a significant step.

“This is a big shift for the Dunedin market, with Colliers’ national and international reach giving us the ability to provide clients with a more extensive range of expertise and services,” he says.

“We’ve already laid the groundwork for residential valuation expansion with the recent employment of experienced registered valuer Duncan Jack. We’re now excited to provide valuation services to the wider Otago market.”

Colliers International Dunedin Director Dean Collins, who runs the agency’s Dunedin real estate business with support from agents Matt Morton and Matt Bowie, says it is a hugely positive step.

“We’re excited to be able to provide a wider range of services to our clients in Dunedin. It’s great to be combining resources with a well-established, family-run local company.”

Colliers International New Zealand Chief Executive Mark Synnott says the mergers support his vision for growth in New Zealand.

The combined Otago teams comprise 10 commercial brokers, 17 residential agents and 15 valuers, plus administration, marketing, accounts and agency support staff.

Chapman Consultancy was established in Dunedin in 2002, offering Property Valuation, Specialised Consultancy and Insurance Valuation services.
