Colliers Rural Valuation are providing the Eight Hundred Trust – Kiwi Reserve market valuation services free of charge due to the environmental benefits and increases in native birdlife that the Trust’s activities deliver.
The Eight Hundred Trust owns land at the edge of New Zealand’s Matemateāonga Range, Eastern Taranaki with two native bush blocks at the head of this valley being home to kiwi and other native birdlife. The Trust is planning to extend the bush corridor for the native wildlife and to improve the water quality.
“It is something I am proud that Colliers Rural Valuation could contribute to.”
The Eight Hundred Trust has made significant progress in recent years to preserve and enhance the natural environment. The Trust has been active in pest control utilising two full-time rangers which has seen bird-friendly native bush flourish and birdlife increase.
Operation Nest Egg, where depleted bird species eggs are incubated and rehomed to areas including Taupō and the Wairarapa, has seen 40 eggs donated to date.
The Trust has other initiatives they are investigating, including developing a technology that can compare birdsong between years to determine whether birdlife is increasing annually through these projects.
The Eight Hundred Trust is part of the Trees That Count programme where donated or gifted native trees are matched with restoration groups across Aotearoa to be planted and cared for. To date 10,500 trees have been donated which will help to remove approximately 24,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere over 50 years, based on Tāne's Tree Trust National Carbon Calculator.
