Colliers valuations team caps award-winning year

The Colliers Valuation & Advisory Services team have capped a strong year by bolstering its capacity and promoting multiple team members.

These key strategic moves mark a positive end to 2023, a year in which they secured major portfolio assignments across the public and private sectors.

The team, led by National Director of Valuation & Advisory Services Kane Sweetman, were also named the Valuation Team of the Year at the RICS New Zealand Awards 2023 in Auckland in August, further underlying their market-leading reputation.

Valuer Josh Higgie started with Colliers as an Associate Director in the Auckland office in November.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to join Colliers. I'm looking forward to working with our team of experts and assisting clients with their valuation needs,” Higgie says.

His arrival follows a handful of recent promotions in the team.

Nick Hooper, who has worked for Colliers for more than 15 years, was promoted from Associate Director to Director. Hooper works in the metro sector and collaborates with both industrial and commercial entities.

Jacqueline Frost has been promoted from Associate Director to Director and has shifted her focus to the retail sector following more than a decade working as a CBD office specialist in Wellington, and more recently Auckland.

Jasmine Fung, who works in the industrial team and focuses on large-scale portfolios, has been promoted from Senior Valuer to Associate Director.

Sweetman says these promotions are due reward for the hard work of his team and the arrival of Higgie reflects their strong position in the market where there is a continued demand for their services.

“It has been yet another strong year across the Colliers New Zealand valuation business, despite challenging economic and market factors. Relatively soft market conditions, limited sales volumes, and increased investor uncertainty have continued from 2022,” Sweetman says.

“Our valuation teams throughout the country have all remained busy with record or near-record levels across most geographies and sectors.

“Our Auckland team have performed particularly well in 2023 with major portfolio assignments secured across a mix of listed property companies as well as corporate entities and government departments. These key mandates, coupled with our ongoing regular projects, have supported growth in our team, both in terms of promotions and strategic recruitment.”

With an eye to next year, Sweetman says market steadiness is something that will be welcomed across the property sector.

“Going forward into 2024 we are very positive that market conditions will stabilise before then improving. Our focus is on continued growth based on developing our expert Valuers to provide best-in-class service to our clients.”

Kane has over 25 years of experience in the New Zealand, Australian and UK real estate sector.

Kane’s experience is truly global having provided valuation and advisory services throughout the Pacific along with various pan-European and pan-Asian portfolio valuation assignments.  In the UK he was directly involved in some of the largest development and land transactions including support for a corporate acquisition by US logistics giant Prologis and the provision of  feasibility studies for the development of London’s Stratford regeneration, which included Westfield Stratford and the surrounds. Kane is a past member of the Auckland Branch committee of the NZIV and was the Deputy Chairman for the New South Wales RICS board between 2009 and 2011. He is a RICS Assessor and has been part of the Oceania Valuation Standards Board along with being Chairman of RICS New Zealand between 2014 and 2020.  In 2011 Kane was invited to become a Fellow of the RICS for his contributions to the Institution and the property profession.  He is currently a member of the PCNZ National Advisory Group.

Nick Hooper

Nick has over 10 years experience in the New Zealand real estate sector.

Nick has been involved predominantly with industrial and suburban commercial valuation assignments with a recent focus on the Auckland city fringe market. Work includes valuations for insurance purposes, mortgage security, acquisition and disposal, rental and ground rental reviews, purchase price allocations, tax depreciation schedules and assisting with the valuation of large portfolios.

Nick is on the bank valuation panels for ANZ, Westpac, BNZ and Kiwibank.

Jacqueline joined the Valuation & Advisory business in October 2011 focussing predominantly on CBD and Fringe office valuations in the Wellington Region. Jacqueline moved to Auckland in 2016 and again is focussing predominantly on CBD and Fringe office valuations in the Auckland Region.

Jasmine Fung

Jasmine joined Colliers  in October 2013 as a Graduate Valuer in the Wellington Office upon completion of her Bachelor of Property and Commerce Conjoint Degree at The University of Auckland. Jasmine moved to the Auckland office in June 2016 and got accredited as a Registered Valuer in 2017.

Jasmine is predominately focused on industrial and suburban commercial properties in the Auckland Region. Work includes valuations for insurance purposes, mortgage security, acquisition and disposal, rental assessment and assists with the valuation of large portfolios for financial reporting.
