The map is covering the key sales in North Canterbury in the past 18 months.

There has been a good level of activity during this period with quality properties selling well despite successive droughts and the earthquakes.

Demand appears to have been driven by different pools of buyers competing over the available listings. The Hurunui Water Project, a 21,000 ha irrigation scheme, due to be commissioned in 2021, is also increasingly of consideration for potential buyers.

The  positive outlook for commodity prices and currently low interest rates support a good level of inquiry for sheep and beef properties that local real estate agents are receiving.

For large scale high country properties, the Overseas Investment Office decisions could now start to affect the liquidity as overseas buyers have been historically active in this segment of the market.
