Two generations embrace apartment living

David and  Joanna Koefoed are  looking at their decision to move from  ‘house  to apartment’ living as an adventure,  and  with no lawns to mow or garden to take care of – as an added bonus.

They  recently bought an apartment at Alexandra Park’s  new  ‘223 Green Lane  West’ urban village development.

With grandchildren in Christchurch, a holiday  home in Coromandel, and  mother-in-law in Thames, they will be able  to pack their cases  and  go,   their two bedroom apartment giving them  a spare room  when visitors come.

“Our  first impressions on walking in to the Alexandra Park residential suite were   WOW”  said David.     “Superb finish and well thought out design with use of quality products throughout.”

Having a new village come to life in Epsom  has been a factor in their choice  of apartment development.

“The things  that  make  Alexandra Park our residential choice  are location, the views from the apartments, their design and  security and  a wish to remain  in our familiar neighbourhood, close  to friends  and  amenities.” He said.

David’s father  Ross, lives close  by with them.  Retirement village life was in his mind as his next step, but instead he has also purchased a one  bedroom apartment on the same  floor, across  the hallway from his son.    He is looking  forward to independence, security  and  privacy.

“The closeness is perfect!”  said David.   “We can be on hand if Dad should  need assistance or he can pop over for a cuppa in the evening and  tell us about his day.  We will no doubt continue our usual Friday night  ritual of him coming to us for fish and  chips and  a roast  on Sundays.”

They all enjoy living in Epsom  and  visiting the cafés  and restaurants in the area.    They like that  they are very central  to all areas, to public  transport and  have  easy access to several shopping centres. The development will also include  high-end boutique retailers and  cafes  and  restaurants as well as great public  spaces.

For Ross and  more  recently David, they are never  far from the Mt Roskill Rugby Club and  the Trotting  Club at Alexandra Park, where  Ross has been a member for over 30 years, and  also a past Steward of the club.  It also means for Ross he doesn’t have  far to go to see  his friends.”

“It’s easier  for all of us.”  said David.  “Buying this early has allowed us to buy apartments on the same  level, opposite each  other, but still allows us to have our own privacy and be independent.”
