Colliers International has been exclusively appointed to market Lot 1 of the former Wiri Quarry site on the corner of Roscommon Road and Vogler Drive in Wiri, South Auckland.

Expressions of interest on the ready-to-develop site close on Thursday, 14 September unless sold prior.

Goldfinch says Wiri has become increasingly popular in recent years, and is widely regarded as Auckland’s freight and logistics hub.

The site is located by the Southwestern Motorway (State Highway 20), only 3km from the interchange with the Southern Motorway (SH1).

The recent completion of the Waterview Tunnel means SH20 now fully connects SH1 with the Northwestern Motorway (SH16), offering easier access to Auckland’s western and northern suburbs.

The area is well-served by South Auckland’s large labour force.

The lot for sale is part of a wider 40ha site that once served as the Wiri Quarry.

Previously quarried by Fletcher subsidiary Winstone Aggregates, the site has more recently been used as a distribution centre for sand and aggregate products from Winstone’s other quarries in Auckland.

Kuzmich says the site also played a key role in the construction of the Waterview Tunnel, which opened last month.

“The quarry site was home to a crushing plant, where rock excavated during the Waterview Tunnel project was processed for other uses including road foundations and backfill.

“Spoil from tunnel excavations was also used to fill the quarry in preparation for its future use as a prime industrial site.

“At the height of the Waterview project, more than 8,000 cubic metres of spoil was arriving at the Wiri site every day.”

Kuzmich says the former quarry has now been completely filled and stabilised.

“The work has been approved by certified earthworks engineers and the site will be ready to be built on when title is issued, which is expected in April 2018. The final step will be for a new owner to develop the site to its full potential.
